Family Events a Success at Central
This week marks a milestone in the academic careers of our oldest students at Central Elementary, the 2nd graders--a return to a feeling of “normalcy” with parent-invited events. These students began as kindergarteners in the 2019-2020 school year, with their synchronous learning cut short at the onset of the pandemic. Last school year, many students remained online-only for the duration, while those who returned to in-person donned masks and attempted to maintain social distance at all times. During the current school year, however, they have started back 100% in-person, with masks optional, and best hygiene practices in place in lieu of strict distancing--and yesterday and today, families were welcomed onto campus for the first time in nearly a year and a half to join our book fair morning events, “Donuts with Grownups.” This comes as the dashboard currently proclaims a total of 1 active case in our entire district, reflecting the trend of declining cases in our county.
Families began to eagerly flow in when doors opened at 7 AM, with last names A-M yesterday, and N-Z today. Overall, Central hosted 93 adults and well over 100 students between the two events. Students and siblings browsed and purchased books, adults sipped coffee, and everyone chatted excitedly while enjoying donut holes. It was wonderful to see the greater school community interacting and connecting again, and we look forward to hosting similar events at East Side on November 9th and 10th!
